Turkish Ceramics Industry meets at New Year's Ball
The traditional New Year’s Ball, the fourth one of which was held this year by Ceramics Federation, took place in Maslak Princess Hotel on December 8, 2006. Approximately five hundred guests comprising member firms of Ceramic Federation, Association Chairman, public agencies, artists and educators participated in the ball hosted by Ceramics Federation President Adnan Polat.
The dinner given after the cocktail party where guests spent pleasant moments started with a speech by Turkish Ceramic Association Tolun Vural. TIMDER Chairman of Board of Directors Kemal Yıldırım, SEREF Chairman of Board of Directors Faruk Arısoy, SERHAM Chairman of Board of Directors Ilhami Tezcan, SERSA Chairman of Board of Directors Hasan Sazcı, SERKAP Chairman of Board of Directors Ahmet Yamaner and lastly, Ceramics Federation President Adnan Polat touched upon the problems of the sector in their addresses in which they evaluated year 2006 for the sector and they announced their year 2007 targets.
“Ceramics Federation Honor Award given to Ibrahim Polat”
Ceramics Federation Honor Award, which was given to the doyenne of ceramics industry, Ibrahim Bodur, and Dr. Nejat Eczacıbaşı, founder of Eczacıbaşı Holding, a leading industry group in Turkey, this year was given to esteemed Ibrahim Polat, Chairman of Polat Holding Board of Directors, who has made a major contribution to Turkish industry. Ministry of Public Works and Habitation Faruk Nafız Özak, who presented the award at the podium, articulated his emotions as follows: “I have been in this industry since 1974, too. Here, I would like to talk about a success story. We used to sell white tile in wooden boxes. Today, there is a Turkey exporting with its modern facilities and a large number of product ranges. We are proud of this. We have come a long way. Being an industrialist is a hard job. We are a country of crisis. Turkey is playing big. Now, we went up to the rank of 17th largest country in international trade. We must not take nice days, trust and stability for granted in Turkey.
Ibrahim Polat, who took the floor next, said; “I would like to thank everybody here since you have deemed that I deserved this award”.
“Golden Jug Honor Award given to Adnan Polat”
Another award of the evening, Honor Award of 9th Golden Jug Ceramic Contest held by Izmir Rotary Club, was given to Adnan Polat. Rotary Club Art Committee Head Dr. Halim Şima said they organized the contest since 1991 to encourage young artists and added; “I thank Adnan Polat in the name of young artists and because of his support”. Adnan Polat expressed his feelings saying; “This award was a surprise for me. I thank very much to those who thought about it and young artists for this very valuable award” as he received his trophy.
