CAPACITY BUILDING PROJECT ON MONITORING, REPORTING AND VERIFICATION (MRV) OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS 13/02/2020 ANKARA
The Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, General Directorate of Environmental Management held an evaluation workshop on the revision of the "Communiqué on Monitoring and Reporting of Greenhouse Gases" within the scope of "Gap Analysis Component of the Regulation on Monitoring of Greenhouse Gas Emissions". Ceramic Federation participated in the meeting.
Sectors with high emission values were invited to the meeting.
The relevant regulation entered into force on May 17, 2014. Greenhouse gases have been monitored since 2015. A project partnership is maintained with the German GIZ firm on Monitoring Measurement Verification and Reporting of the Regulation. Funded by the German Ministry of Environment, the project has been successfully carried out in collaboration with the Ministry in Turkey. Annual greenhouse gas emissions of 700 companies are monitored and verified. This corresponds to 50% of the greenhouse gases in Turkey.
The project has 3 new priorities as of the end of 2018.
1. Incorporating the dynamics of the aviation industry into the system
2. Benchmarking of greenhouse gas emissions in different industries
3. Improving Greenhouse Gas Monitoring, Reporting and Verification practices.
This stage of the study serves the Priority number 3, Improving Greenhouse Gas Monitoring, Reporting and Verification practices. The workshop was organized to get the opinions of the relevant parties. On a sectoral basis, the participants expressed their opinions on the changes in the regulation articles by the Ministry officials. Revisions on issues such as monitoring plan change, Laboratory use, frequency of analysis, reporting of improvements were discussed.
Preparations for the implementation of benchmark for the ceramics industry for priority number 2, which will be coordinated by the Turkey Ceramic Federation, are in progress.
