Turkish Ceramics shake Bologna with the Shaman show

The “Ceramics Promotion Group”, which conducts the global branding activities of Turkish ceramic ware, organized a show by the famed “Shaman” dance ensemble at the Cersaie 2008 Trade Fair held in Italy.

Approximately 3,000 people coming to view the live performance called “The Rendezvous” by “Shaman” group on the evening of October 2, 2008, filled Piazza Maggiore which is the main square of Italy’s Bologna city and gave a standing ovation to the live performance, viewing it with great excitement. Giant tower s, placed on either side and across the stage set up for this major show at Piazza Maggiore which is Bologna’s most important square, were decorated by “Turkish Ceramics” logo and also Turkish ceramics promotion film and a promotion film on Turkey were shown continuously for three days on the giant screen installed on the side of the stage. All this promotion drew great interest of industry officials and the public.

STG (Ceramics Promotion Group) was set up in 1997 for the purpose of branding and global publicity of Turkish ceramics by OAIB (Central Anatolia Exporters Union) with supplementary annual fees deducted from exporting ceramics manufacturers. The Ceramics Promotion Group continued with its activities with great speed at the beginning of 2007 together with Markam Marka İletişimi Danışmanlığı and Medina Turgul DDB advertising agencies for promoting the firms in the whole industry jointly. Turkish Ceramics, which drew great interest with the Fire of Anatolia show held at Cersaie 2007, made its mark on the trade fair this year, too, organizing the Shaman dance show.

STG Chairman Bahadır Kayan, who stated that by this significant event, Turkey was promoted in addition to Turkish ceramics, said; “The show drew great interest in Italy. It will contribute to creation of new opportunities for our firms in their global campaigns. We are raising our efforts for enhancing the brand value of Turkish Ceramics to the highest level. Our country is among the top five in world’s ceramic trade. Ceramics industry creates a very significant value added for our country. Our future activities we will strengthen not only our own sector but the brand of Turkey as a whole. In fact, in many sectors, countries and industries, firms, even brands started to become identified with each other. We, too, will show how contentious we are in this global competition. We, as Turks, started to carry out activities which will serve a model for many industries.

The RENDEZVOUS, which was the first work by SHAMAN made up of 40 performers, was created by 15 choreographers on the idea that performing arts are a whole. The show was created by bringing together many dance disciplines including Anatolian folk dances, modern dance and ballet and other folk dances of the world. In line with the name of the show, dances and folk songs from all over Anatolia (halays, karşılamas, zeybeks, bars, horons, güvendes), modern dance, ballet, acrobacy, flamenco, Hungarian, Caucasus, Georgian, Abkhaz and Balkan dances comprised the repertoire which was supported by our original and ritualistic art disciplines like the Mehter and Sema. The RANDEZVOUS was colored with not frequently used ethnic instruments and percussions, strengthening expression beside dances and folk songs.
